"Size of the group is irrelevant when joining a group or looking for a mentor "

Recently, I received several inquiries from potential Will-Writers asking me if I have a big number of downlines in my group. My reply to them was 'No. My group, the 'CMY Group' is not among the top 3 in the company. I started recruitment about only 3+ years ago but 'CMY Group' is one of the most effective and efficient one in Rockwills.'

Should the number of downlines in a group be a factor to consider before you join the leader in Rockwills? My answer is 'NO'. The most important factor to consider is who is your mentor? Mentor plays a very important role in your career in estate planning. Estate planning is very advisory in nature and thus, to be successful in the business, you must have enough knowledge before you can advise your client efficiently, effectively and confidently. You are require to address your client's concern, know the the legal constrain and problems that his beneficiaries or estate might face in the future etc. You have to come out with a comprehensive plan that function. A plan that is able to protect his estate, his minor or 'problematic' child or beneficiary, a plan that ensure his wishes can come true without any hindrance in the future etc. Appropriate estate planning tools must be introduced to him to ensure complete estate planning is put in place before he/she goes. This is your job as a Professional Estate Planner.

Thus, if you do not have a experience mentor who can guide you, how can you perform the duty of a Professional Estate Planner effectively? Your mentor not only must be experience and a capable one, he/she must be the type who is willing to share and part knowledge to you, he/she is not selfish, he/she does not worry you can do better than him/her, he/she share 100% he/she knows and keep nothing to himself/herself. He/she ensures you learn the 'easy way' not the 'hard way'.

He/she is not there just to recruit you and teach you swim in shallow water only. He/she is there with you in the blue ocean all your life to continuously teaching you, improving your quality and quantity of sale, sharing the better ways to do business, etc. He/she tries to ensure you are successful in the business, you are never a treat to him/her in the industry. He/she is not there just to teach how to start your will-writing services, help you to do a few simple Wills and throw you in the blue ocean and you have to swim yourself. He/she has to enhance your knowledge beyond that so that you can do comprehensive estate planning, thus end up with comprehensive Will and Trust done for your clients. Thus, you earn good income and your client has a complete estate planning plan put in place!

Will Talk at Soka Gakkai Malaysian Rawang Service Centre

I gave  a talk on Will-Writing at Soka Gakkai Malaysian Rawang Services Centre, Selangor on 9/11/2102, Friday at 8.30pm.  It was attended by about 30+ devotees. The talk supposed to start at 7.30pm was delayed to 8.30pm due to the heavy rain in the evening. 

It was an interesting sharing as I shared quiet a number of stories on why Will is important. Everyone attended benefited from the Will Talk.

An unwelcomed joint owner

Mrs Wong called me today. Her husband passed away suddenly without leaving behind a Will. Now, three of her houses which are under joint names with her late husband has a new joint owner - her mother-in-law.

She asked her mother-in-law if she could sell her 1/4 share in her late husband's 50% share to her. The mother-in-law said 'No, I want to will my share to my three other sons when I pass away in the future'. 

Mrs Wong was very angry but she can not do anything to stop her.

All these anger and frustration can be avoided if her late husband has written a Will.

A man with 2 Wills

Mr. Wong has 2 families. He went to a legal firm to write a Will to will away his assets that are held under joint names with his wife, Ms Susan to her and went to another legal firm to write another Will that will away assets that are held under joint names with Anne, the mistress to her. 

He did this is because he wanted to keep secret of his assets distribution. 

Mr. Wong called me 2 days ago to ask my opinion if what he did was correct. I told him that his second Will actually revoked his earlier Will and Susan will get nothing. Quickly he rewrite a new Will and and put down all his asset in one new Will and appoint Rockwills Trustee Berhad as his executor. This appointment will prevent contentions among the two families.

Will Talk Engagement

This year 2012, I started the year with a big bang, I have conducted more then 8 Will Talks within 3 months! I was talking at Senior Citizen Association in Kota Kinabalu; The Rotary Club Luyang, Kota Kinabalu; a Chinese Secondary School (Pui Teck) in Malacca; Chin Woo Stadium in Kuala Lumpur; a drug factory Xepa-Soul Pattinson Sdn Bhd in Malacca; a German factory in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan and Transmacro Concepts Sdn Bhd in Shah Alam, Selangor and others.
